Online therapy you can trust

How are therapists approved to appear in our directory?

The practitioners listed in our directory are not employed or contracted by ProblemShared. However, we maintain this carefully curated directory as many work with us through private partnerships.

We have now made this directory publicly available to help you find trusted, third-party practitioners for online talk therapy sessions. We hold every therapist in our directory to the highest professional and ethical standards.

Each practitioner is thoroughly vetted by our in-house team, must be registered with the appropriate professional bodies, and demonstrate expertise in delivering effective online therapy. We will never include a therapist we wouldn’t work with ourselves.

Talk therapy for children

Many therapists in our directory have experience working with children and young people. Those who offer therapy to individuals under 18 have completed enhanced DBS checks and are thoroughly vetted by our in-house team to ensure the highest standards of care and safety.

Some therapists may offer one-to-one sessions alone with your child. Others may require a parent or guardian to be present. Your therapist will discuss these details with you early in the process to ensure you and your child are comfortable.

What clients say

“Before my counselling through ProblemShared I had never received any form of therapy and I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience. I am happy to say I have learnt a lot about myself and how I can better cope with the challenges I have faced. Perhaps more importantly, I feel comfortable reaching out for help in the future should I feel I need it.”

Student

“My counsellor was a skilled CBT professional who helped equip me with practical exercises to overcome the issues in question. The counselling I received has enabled me to continue with my studies and regain my confidence moving forward.“

Student

“Danny is such a good therapist. The first professional I have spoken to that I felt was actually equipped to help me…very approachable and considerate. Would recommend to anyone but especially LGBTQ+ people as I felt welcome, safe and accepted.“

Student

“I have multiple diagnoses for mental health – the counsellor understood this and took it into account during my sessions. Accessibility outside normal hours was brilliant. Definitely considered leaving/deferring without the mental support received.“

How do I choose the right practitioner?

Choosing the right practitioner is about finding someone whose style, approach, and experience feel like a good fit for you. Here are a few things to consider:

Experience and expertise: Look for practitioners who have experience in areas that match your needs.

Therapeutic approach: Different practitioners use different models, from CBT to psychodynamic therapy. Think about what feels most comfortable for you.

Communication style: It’s important that you feel heard and understood. Some practitioners are more structured, others more reflective, so choose someone whose style helps you feel supported.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Availability can vary between practitioners. The quickest way to find out is to contact your chosen practitioner directly and they’ll be able to let you know their next available appointment.

I am a self-paying client. How much do talk therapy sessions cost?

Session fees can vary, as each practitioner sets their own rates. The best way to find out the cost is to contact your chosen practitioner directly, who will be happy to discuss their fees with you.

What if I fail to attend an appointment?

Practitioners set their own terms and conditions for session attendance, so please check these directly with your practitioner.

Please note that ProblemShared is not responsible for any matters arising from private sessions arranged through the directory. All enquiries should be directed to the individual practitioners, as each operates under their own terms, conditions, and policies.

Will I have the same practitioner throughout my time with ProblemShared?

Most of the time, you’ll continue working with the same practitioner throughout your therapy, giving you the chance to build a consistent and supportive relationship. We know that consistency and trust are important and we aim to provide a therapeutic space that feels predictable and safe. Occasionally, if it seems that a different practitioner or approach may better meet your needs, this can be discussed openly with us or your practitioner. Our priority is to ensure that you always feel comfortable, supported and confident in the care you receive.

Am I able to choose my practitioner?

Choosing the right practitioner is an important part of therapy — it’s about finding someone whose style, approach, and experience feel like a good fit for you. We will do our best to match you with a practitioner based on your preferences, the therapeutic approach that may work best for you and your availability.

What if I fail to attend an appointment?

If you miss an appointment, it will be recorded as a non-attendance, and one session will be deducted from your allocated sessions. Repeated missed sessions may result in discharge from the service. If you are unable to attend a session, please email your practitioner directly at least 48 hours in advance to let them know. For AXA clients, two missed sessions will result in an £100 payment to continue sessions.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Once your referral has been received, we can match you with a practitioner within two working days, and your first session can usually be scheduled within 10 working days.

What do I need to do to prepare for my first session?

  • Think about what matters to you: Consider any challenges, feelings or goals you want to explore.
  • Note questions or concerns: Writing down thoughts can help to remember what’s important to discuss.
  • Consider your environment: Choose a space where you feel safe and comfortable, especially for online sessions.
  • Be kind to yourself: Feeling nervous is normal. Your therapist is there to listen, support and work with you at your pace.
  • Share your needs: Let your therapist know how you communicate best or any adjustments that help you feel comfortable.
  • Your first session is about understanding you and how you can work together to reach your goals.
