If you or your child have received an autism or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnosis through ProblemShared, you may be eligible for our psychoeducation sessions.
Please note that access to our psychoeducation sessions is subject to clinical assessment, a GP referral, and approval by your NHS provider, insurer, or university health service.
We understand that receiving an autism or ADHD diagnosis can be a lot to process.
To help navigate this important period of adjustment, we offer psychoeducation sessions where you can learn more about your or your child's diagnosis.
Our sessions are currently only available to clients:
Who have received an autism or ADHD diagnosis with ProblemShared.
If psychoeducation sessions are also supported by their NHS service, university, or insurance provider.
Who are AXA clients with a pre-existing autism or ADHD diagnosis, provided they have AXA cover for the duration of their sessions and can provide evidence of their diagnosis.
We do not currently offer psychoeducation sessions to clients under the age of 18. In the case of child-age clients, we offer psychoeducation sessions to parents or caregivers.
Sessions are arranged into the following age groups:
Our psychoeducation sessions consist of four sessions covering different topics related to your diagnosis. These sessions will be supplemented with other materials such as, reading materials and signposting to resources, both curated by our expert clinicians.
Session 1: Reflections on your diagnosis, exploring ADHD and how it’s classified, a brief explanation of the neurochemical differences in ADHD brains, and their unique strengths and abilities.
Session 2: Strategies to support motivation, procrastination, and time-awareness, and reasonable accommodations in the workplace and at home.
Session 3: Exploring ADHD burnout, emotional regulation, and self-care.
Session 4: Exploring ADHD masking, rejection sensitivity dysphoria (RSD), social relationships and strategies to support these areas.
Session 1: Reflections on your diagnosis, neurodiversity, and autistic identity, including societal changes in how we understand the lived experiences of autistic people.
Session 2: Psychological theories of autism to understand and validate autistic experiences, information processing styles, autistic communication, and reasonable accommodations related to attention, information processing, and communication differences.
Session 3: Exploring sensory processing differences and emotional regulation and sensory soothing strategies.
Session 4: Exploring masking, disclosing to friends and family, burnout, autistic self-care, and autistic joy.
The autism and ADHD sessions for parents include additional topics around communication, friendships, using visuals, and coping with changes.
