Special interest areas

I have worked with clients who have formal diagnoses or consider themselves to be impacted by ADHD for three years. My general approach is one of acceptance and even celebration of difference, while not denying the struggles and distress that can be the experience of people seeking help through therapy with ADHD difficulties. This work can include many factors, depending on the needs of the clients, including 'social skills' work such as ways of adapting to symptoms experienced as distressing, but also finding aspects of the self that may have been suppressed or hidden, and letting go of societal norms and fully embracing ADHD as part of the self and freely expressed in relationship with others. I also specialise in the Psychological aspects of Migraine..

Personal Statement

I have experience helping people with anxiety, stress, depression and low mood, bereavement, life transition, psychological aspects of migraine and other chronic pain issues, sexuality and other identity issues and relationship difficulties. I also have experience of helping people explore and work through more general concerns to do with a sense of discomfort, 'just not feeling right' and a sense of recurring life patterns or themes.

The main models of therapy underpinning my work as a psychotherapist are Transactional Analysis and Relational Psychotherapy. Transactional Analysis looks at how we become who we are, and how we grow and change during the course of life. Relational Psychotherapy is an approach which believes in the centrality of the therapeutic relationship as the significant agent for change and successful therapy.
