Special interest areas

Whilst much of my counselling practice is based on Person Centred theory in that is grounded in empathy, warmth and unconditional positive regard for my clients , I also draw on Psychodynamic theory and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well in order to tailor the therapy to the needs of the client. Completing degree level qualifications in CBT and Youth Counselling has further enhanced my counselling practice by equipping me with a broad range of counselling techniques and skills that I tailor to the needs of each client. Similarly, completing an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice where I graduated with distinction, has significantly enhanced my knowledge and skills in key aspects of counselling such as how to build effective and collaborative therapeutic relationships with clients and in delivering effective talking treatments for stress and anxiety with some of my research in this area having been published by the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I have also had specific training in delivering CBT and DBT based coping skills which can enable clients to learn ways of managing their emotions more effectively and have had specialist training in effective ways of reducing exam anxiety, an area in which I run group programmes to support young people experiencing high levels of exam related anxiety. .

Personal Statement

I have a wealth of experience working therapeutically with clients of all ages using a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which can be a very successful approach to managing a range of issues such as anxiety, low mood, low self esteem, anger problems, etc. I seek to understand each clients' experiences from their perspective to help us understand how the difficulties have come about and in order to find effective ways of moving forward. I offer clients a safe and confidential space to express and explore difficult thoughts and feelings without fear or blame in order to reduce psychological distress, develop effective ways of coping and enhance emotional wellbeing.
