Personal Statement
Being a student can be a challenging time. If you are struggling to make sense of some relationships, experiencing difficult or confusing feelings, concerned about your academic work, worried about your finances or maybe noticing that alcohol and drugs are becoming an issue, having a place to talk and create some goals for yourself can be extremely beneficial.
As an experienced counsellor and addiction coach, I help people identify their existing strengths, explore what may be troubling them and assist in creating an agreed course of action in line with their values and circumstances.
Building a strong alliance is the main indicator for successful outcomes in both therapy and coaching, however certain techniques can also be useful. My approach combines Harm Reduction Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Brainspotting (a technique used in sports and performance coaching) all of which can be effective for issues such as substance overuse, stress, procrastination, anxiety, alcohol overuse and work / study worries'
