Personal Statement

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on several different ways of counselling to match my approach to suit clients’ individual needs. Thus the foundation of my counselling is relational, where I develop a safe, warm, compassionate relationship to help explore whatever brings you to counselling.

Our minds can be very powerful and tie us in knots. To understand this I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, with ways of unpicking your irrational thinking and beliefs, to find a more balanced approach. Sometimes we can be very harsh and critical of ourselves. Here I use Compassionate Focussed Therapy, to explore behavioural ways of easing difficulties to find a kinder approach for ourselves.

I have been counselling for 16 years and I draw on the knowledge and experience I have gained through working in different settings, which include working in GP surgeries and training people to become counsellors.

In our first session, we will reflect on how you may experience counselling with me. I will be interested in your experiences of counselling to help shape my approach. I will be interested to find out what you hope to get from counselling, to collaboratively agree a way of working.
