Special interest areas
I have particular experience with anxiety and depression with male and female adults, and grief including the loss of a son and death through accident and suicide.
In the first few sessions my focus is to create a safe, non-judgemental and compassionate space, for the client to explore what they want from counselling.
Throughout I offer counselling tools when needed to help with everyday anxieties.
My approach generally comes from the belief that healing comes from empowerment through increased self-awareness, and integration through self-compassion. Also, I have often witnessed transformation as spiritual in nature.
I begin counselling explaining about myself as a counsellor, my approach, and practicalities such as supervision, being a member of a professional body, and ethical practice. I inform clients that there are regular reviews, with the first one focussed on how well we are meeting the client’s expectations. Subsequent reviews are to help the client gain a sense of progress, to change how we are working, and as a springboard for future work.
