Personal Statement

I work collaboratively with clients to determine the best treatment for their presenting issues. I consider the client the expert in how their difficulties impact them and myself as having the knowledge of useful strategies and treatments. We would therefore be working as a team towards agreed goals. Both CBT and EMDR are structured approaches and so there will be an agenda set for each session which we will agree together, in line with a treatment plan.

The initial sessions will be aimed at assessment of the difficulties and goal setting. We will then gain an understanding together of how to work towards the goals and devise a treatment plan that we both feel is appropriate. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of therapy and so my initial sessions will also give an opportunity to build up a good rapport and get to know each other.
