Special interest areas

I have an interest in relationships, Attachment Theory, and developmental psychology, which are integrated into how I work with clients who mostly come to me for help with their relationships and anxiety in its many different forms or when they are experiencing depression. I believe that our early experiences have an influence on our sense of self as well as our hopes and dreams of life and especially our expectations of how we will be treated or judged by others in relationships. I have specialist training in relationship stress and difficulties from the Anna Freud Centre - Dynamic Interpersonal therapy. .

Personal Statement

I help people understand and manage their difficulties in the present so that they can fulfil their hopes and dreams for the future,

As a relational-integrative psychotherapist I am interested in how people manage their relationships and work to support them to understand their difficulties and why they find themselves struggling.

I offer a safe and confidential space that is warm and open-minded, so that clients can talk about feelings and experiences without fear of judgement and gain understanding and help with issues that have become too hard to bear alone.   I believe clients are their own experts and as such the relationship with their therapist should be collaborative and somewhere a client feels supported and thereby empowered to navigate change and overcome their difficulties to live more fully.

I trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist as I feel that clients need different approaches at different times during therapy as they develop and understand their issues. Being trained in a variety of techniques means I can draw from different approaches for my clients, whose paths and personalities are intensely unique and therefore no one theory would be appropriate for everyone.

I draw from several theories, including classical and contemporary theories such as CBT and psychoanalysis. Whereas CBT will directly address thoughts, feelings and behaviours triggered by the view people take of events, Psychodynamic theory relates to helping clients understand their unconscious processes such as patterns of feeling, thinking, and behaving that will be influencing their way of relating to people and events, sometimes completely out of awareness and which I think is very important to address before using a CBT approach. My Humanistic views are based on a more holistic approach that takes a fundamentally positive view of people as both resilient and able to move towards change and growth.  Existential approaches I use, help clients understand meaning and intention, as well as how to make choices and take responsibility for their lives in an empowered way.
